We provide a free-of-charge telephone befriending service. You can refer yourself for this service, or you can ask your GP or Social Prescriber to refer you. One of our befriending team will call you once a week for up to 30 minutes. You will arrange with your befriender when these calls will take place.
You and your befriender will talk about all sorts of things. They will be guided by you. If you can't think of anything to say, your befriender will talk about topics you might enjoy, laugh with you, chat about films, books, your interests. They will be a source of support in your life.
Most befriending calls continue from between 3 months to 1 year. Sometimes longer. It will depend on you. Sometimes our clients feel so much better for having used our befriending service, and it was such a support to them, they decide to become a befriender to someone else.
We all need a friend sometimes.
Our befriending calls offer genuine friendship and understanding.
In a fast-paced world, these conversations provide crucial emotional support, promoting mental well-being and fostering genuine human connections.
Physically, positive social connections have been linked to a stronger immune system, lower blood pressure, and a longer lifespan. Engaging with others often involves physical activities, promoting fitness and overall health.
Mentally, social interactions stimulate the brain, enhancing cognitive abilities and reducing the risk of mental decline as we age. Meaningful connections provide emotional support, reducing stress and anxiety. Regular social engagement also fosters a sense of purpose and boosts self-esteem, vital elements for mental well-being.
Emotionally, social connections offer a platform to share experiences, express feelings, and receive empathy. This emotional validation is essential for mental health. Positive social interactions release hormones like oxytocin, which promote feelings of trust and bonding, leading to emotional stability and happiness.

We provide a companion service. Our companion service provides a companion to visit your home on a regular basis, or from time- to- time, as required. Our companions are trained and DBS checked. They are kind, caring, empathetic and above all, they are fun!
A professional friend in person.
Our companions will support with 'life-skills' which might include completing forms, navigating the internet, doing on-line shopping or setting up virtual family chats. Or maybe help with something more practical, like doing some washing-up or a bit of light house work. All the while, keeping you company.
Our companions will help you get out and about. Maybe you might like to go for a walk in a local park, go for a coffee, take a trip to the shops, attend an appointment at your GP's.
Maybe you might like to go to the cinema or your local pub. Perhaps you might like to play cards or have some help with a jigsaw.
Our companions will support you to keep up with your friendships. They will accompany you to a friends home or perhaps you might like a friend to come round for a coffee or a meal. Our companions will make the coffee or the meal for you, clear up afterwards and make the whole experience effortless and enjoyable.
If you would like to start using our companion service, get in touch. We can talk about how often you would like a companion to visit you, what days and what times. Once we have established what it is that you want. We can arrange to come and meet you. If you like us, we can arrange to start visiting you. It's simple.
